Pieter van Anraadt
Still Life with Earthenware Jug and Clay Pipes

1658 Nicht zu sehen

This subtle still-life is unique in the oeuvre of Pieter van Anraadt, as all of his other known works are mediocre portraits. He was just a beginner when he made this painting. Nevertheless, he did an amazing job of depicting the various materials: the earthenware jug, the coal pan, the glass of dark ale and the dish of tobacco and stone pipes. The soft light entering from the left is reflected by each object in its own particular way.
