The Mauritshuis has a long history of patronage. The main patron was king William I, who donated the collection of his father, stadtholder Prince William V, to the Dutch state in 1816. These paintings form the basis of the current collection of the Mauritshuis. Since then private collectors have also played an important role for the museum. Without private support, the museum as we now know it would not exist. We need your support for the future as well.
