The BankGiro Lottery is the cultural lottery of the Netherlands. It supports organisations aimed at structurally improving the preservation of the Dutch national patrimony.
750.000 participants play in the lottery every month. A lottery ticket only costs € 10.50 a month, and there are 14 draws a year. Half of each prize is donated to a good cause. Thanks to the people who took part in the BankGiro Lottery in 2011 more than € 64 million was divided among circa 60 cultural good causes, including the Mauritshuis.
Together with the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Emilie Gordenker, director of the Mauritshuis received € 7.924.844,- for its capital expense fund. The Mauritshuis wishes to thank the BankGiro Lottery for its generous donation.
