The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis was a state museum until privatisation in 1995. The foundation set up at that time took on responsibility for both the building and the collection, with the collection retained on a long-term loan and the building rented form the state by the Museum. The organisation has various departments, each with its own functions and objectives. There are approximately forty permanent members of staff and an active Staff Council.
The Mauritshuis maintains a code of conduct which sets out the standards of behaviour expected of its staff.
