Restoration of portraits by Frans Hals

In 2006-2007 two paintings from our main collection were restored: the portraits Frans Hals painted of Jacob Olycan and Aletta Hanemans. The restorations were carried out in the Conservation Studio of the Mauritshuis.

The paintings presented the conservators with a bit of a dilemma: what should be done with the 'non-original' coats of arms?
