Collection will remain on display in The Hague
The Mauritshuis is renowned both at home and abroad for its outstanding collection. This reflects our mission to 'share the best of Dutch Golden Age painting in our house'. The 'Mauritshuis building for the future' project will enable us to realise this statement to its full potential.
By creating more space and thereby more possibilities, our masterpieces will be more accessible to all.
An underground foyer will link the museum to the building across the street, Plein 26.
This will double the floor area, creating more space for art, exhibitions, education and events. A new entrance in the forecourt area will lend the Mauritshuis the prestige that befits its international standing. The museum shop and café will be completely restyled.
Collection to the Gemeentemuseum the Hague
While work on the extension is being carried out, the Mauritshuis will remain both active and visible. The best pieces from the collection will continue to be on display in The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
From 28 April 2012 until mid-2014, around 100 highlights from the Mauritshuis’s collection are on display in a separate wing of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
