The technical examination and conservation of the paintings of the Golden Room began in September 2012. The restoration was made possible in collaboration with Royal Dutch Shell.

Research on the grey/white film

After discovering what the grey/white film was on the Pellegrini paintings, the research team focused on the cause of this extra layer. The impact on the colour palette made it necessary to find a possible solution.

Introduction Pellegrini

In this short film conservator Carol Pottasch talks about an exceptional project and the first steps of the treatment.

Pellegrini and the Golden Room

In the early eighteenth century the Italian artist Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini made the decorations for the Golden Room of the Mauritshuis. When the museum was emptied in order to start on its renovation and expansion of the building, Pellegrini's paintings were taken to a studio. The temporary studio has enough space to handle and treat these large canvases.
