View the Mauritshuis with your ears
One painting, one performer, one great song. Thanks to our new ‘music label’ View the Mauritshuis with Your Ears, we are taking a fresh look at our art.
Writers, film makers, photographers – many have been inspired by the masterpieces in the Mauritshuis. Their books, films and photographs have added new dimensions to our paintings. Music should be a part of this list too.
We approached various singer-songwriters and asked them if they would like to draw inspiration from our collection. No music style was off limits, from pop to metal, classical to punk, with or without lyrics. With four musical odes a year, we’re creating a unique playlist, inspired by the masterpieces in our collection.
The first recording for the Mauritshuis music label was provided by Spinvis with an ode to the museum’s most famous work: Girl with a Pearl Earring. Singer MEROL chose to bring the painting Mars and Venus Surprised by Vulcan by Joachim Wtewael to life with her track Slippertje. Harrie Jekkers chose a poetic ode to Vermeer’s View of Delft.
