New acquisition for the Mauritshuis

As of today, the Mauritshuis is the proud new owner of a special flower still life: Narcissi, Periwinkle and Violets in a Ewer (ca. 1562) by German painter Ludger tom Ring the Younger (1522-1584).

Opening year attracts a record numer of visitors

Since the completion of the renovation and expansion of the Mauritshuis, the museum generates an annual € 23.7 million and 626 jobs for the Dutch economy. The peak effect during the first year after the reopening has also yielded an extra added value of € 8.6 million and 228 jobs.

Velázquez at the Gallery

02 September 2015

This autumn, an exceptional masterpiece will once again be on display in the Prince William V Gallery at the Buitenhof in The Hague. Following presentations of Caravaggio and Titian, the renowned Spanish painter, Diego Velázquez, will be featured this year. The painting, Portrait of Don Diego de Acedo, is a loan from the Prado in Madrid. The masterpiece will be presented from 1 October through 29 November 2015.

Exhibition: In and Out of Storage

From 4 February until 8 May 2016 the Mauritshuis will display works usually hidden from public view. This offers a unique opportunity to see an unknown part of the museum’s collection.

The exhibition will answer many frequently asked questions including: what kinds of paintings are kept in storage, how did they end up there and why aren’t they hanging in the galleries? Highlights, as well as some low points, will be on show.
