View of Montjardin Castle
Van Everdingen travelled to Scandinavia, where he painted northern landscapes with wild waterfalls. But he also worked closer to home. This painting shows Montjardin, a castle near the city of Liège. It stands on a steep rock, towering high above the river in the foreground.
