Gottfried Winkler, Leipzig, by 1768 (his catalogue of 1768, no. 188, as A. van Ostade); Johan Gualtherus van der Poort van Oostcapelle, Middelburg, before 1784; his widow, Johanna Susanna van Mandere, 1784-1793 (her inventory of 1793, no. 7, as I. van Ostade); her heir, jonkheer Johan Steengracht van Oostcapelle, The Hague, 1793-1846; acquired at a family auction by his second son, jonkheer Hendrik Steengracht van Oostcapelle, The Hague, 1846-1875; by inheritance to his nephew, Hendricus Adolphus Steengracht van Duivenvoorde, The Hague and Voorschoten, 1875-1912; his sale, Paris, 9 June 1913 (Lugt 72900), no. 56 (as I. van Ostade, for 26,000 francs to the Rembrandt Association); acquired with the support of the Rembrandt Association, 1913 (as I. van Ostade); on loan to the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem (inv. no. Os 57-2), since 1956 (this loan proceeded via the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage, until 2013)
