Landscape with Hunters

1640 No expuesto

Next to a stable, some hunters are preparing for the hunt. They are bathed in a warm, golden light that looks Mediterranean. The silhouette of the hunter stands out strongly against it.

The Haarlem artist Pieter van Laer lived for a few years in Rome, where he became acquainted with a new subject: Roman street scenes with all sorts of common folk. But he also excelled in livestock painting. This painting is a nice combination of the two subjects.
