The Mauritshuis has acquired a masterpiece by the 17th-century painter Roelant Savery (1576 – 1639) for €6.5 million, thanks to the generous support of the BankGiro Lottery, the Rembrandt Association and a private individual. The painting, Vase of Flowers in a Stone Niche (1615), was destined to be on display at Tefaf in Maastricht.

The Friends of the Mauritshuis Foundation has found a special way to commemorate the museum's second anniversary after its reopening. The Foundation announced today that it has acquired Roses in a Glass Vase, painted in around 1640-1645 by Jacob van Hulsdonck (1582-1647) and will place it on long-term loan to the Mauritshuis.

Deputy Director Victor Moussault (1956) will leave his position at the Mauritshuis as of 1 January 2017. After ten years at the museum, he will depart at a high point, and has chosen to pursue new challenges. He will focus on project management and consultancy work, as the Chair of the Steering Committee of the renovation of Het Loo Palace and other consulting projects, such as for the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo, Norway.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Mauritshuis on 11 October 2016. The visit is planned to coincide with the exhibition At Home in Holland: Vermeer and his contemporaries from the Royal Collection, which includes 22 important genre paintings from her family’s collection, and which will be open to the public from 29 September.

From 4 November through 18 December 2016, one of the most famous masterpieces in the collection of the Mauritshuis, The Goldfinch, will be shown at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh. The painting will return to the Mauritshuis on time for Christmas.
New App Reveals Secrets of Girl with a Pearl Earring.

As of today a brand new app, Second Canvas Mauritshuis, renders Vermeers Girl with a Pearl Earring and ‘The Garden of Eden’ by Rubens en Brueghel to zoom in on the brushstrokes of the paintings in Gigapixel.

Due to popular demand, the exhibition At Home in Holland: Vermeer and his Contemporaries from the British Royal Collection has been extended. Masterpieces by artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hooch and Gerrit Dou will be on show in the Mauritshuis until 5 February 2017 .
