Simon de Vlieger
Beach View

1643 Not on view

De Vlieger specialised in painting seascapes. He composed this painting very carefully, from the dark foreground on the right to the light horizon on the left. Fishing boats have just come ashore, and part of the catch is on the beach. On top of the dunes, a respectable couple are standing, watching it all unfold. Buyers could easily identify with these people, which made the painting even more attractive.
