Take part in the Mauritshuis Art Battle and win a unique museum visit with a Street Art workshop!
In 2022, the Mauritshuis celebrates its 200th anniversary with gifts! This is why we are gifting 100 online lessons to school classes from The Hague and surroundings. The students are challenged to create a work of art themselves, inspired by the Mauritshuis collection. Contemporary artists and performers such as Banksy and Willie Wartaal have already preceded them.
Be creative, be the artist!
During the anniversary year, students from the first and second classes of secondary school will compete with each other in the Mauritshuis Art Battle.
The students are challenged to create a work of art themselves, alone or as a class, inspired by the Mauritshuis collection. From a poem to an installation or garment, let your creativity loose!
Six winners
Six winners will be selected among the submissions, who will be invited with their entire class to the museum for a festive visit. Of course, the original works of art discussed in the class will be visible, but the students will also try their hands themselves at creating a work of art together with The Hague Street Art, which will then be exhibited in The Hague.
Free Online Tour
The entire class will take a free online lesson with a museum teacher through the world's first Gigapixel museum. Inspiration and interaction are at the core of this lesson.
The students will then be challenged to create a work of art themselves, alone or as a class, inspired by the Mauritshuis collection. Ready? Submit the work of art to the Mauritshuis by 30 May 2022.
Among all submissions, several jury members from the museum and beyond will choose 6 winners. The winners will be invited to a festive museum visit, complete with bus transportation and a Street Art workshop.

Practical information
- Duration: about 50 minutes
- For: class 1 and 2 of secondary education
- School year 2021/2022: the lessons will take place in March, April and May 2022. The winners' visits will take place in June (week 25 and 26).
- Submission deadline: for school year 2021/2022, the entries can be submitted until 11 May 2022.

- School year 2022/2023: the lessons will take place in September, October and November 2022. The winners' visits will take place in December (week 49).
Several classes per school
More than one class per school can participate. It’s best to submit each class separately and plan the lessons per class.
What happens next, after the registration of your class
You will choose a date and time slot upon submitting. This will reserve a date and time slot for you. The final time will be determined in consultation so that it best fits your class schedule.
Online lessons via Microsoft Teams
The lessons will take place through Microsoft Teams. The group's teachers will have an active role in this as intermediaries between the group and the museum teacher.
