Of all the National Trust properties, Petworth House undoubtedly has the finest picture collection. It was founded by Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland, a friend of the Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck, and added to by later generations.
As a result very diverse masters can now be seen together at Petworth: from Van Dyck to Titian, from Reynolds to Turner and Blake.
The house and its estate were donated in perpetuity to the Trust in 1947. A large part of the art collection followed later.

- Meindert Hobbema & Adriaen van de Velde - A Landscape with a Common and Coppice (c.1663)
- Simon Verelst - Duke of Cumberland, Prince Rupert of the Rhine (c.1680-1682)
