More Vermeers in one place than ever before. A major retrospective entitled simply Vermeer will open at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in February. The Rijksmuseum actually has four Vermeers in its collection, including his world-famous The Milk Maid. Museums all over the world have agreed to loan their Vermeer masterpieces for this special exhibition. And we of course are no exception: Diana and her Nymphs, View of Delft and our Girl with a Pearl Earring will all be taking a trip to the nation’s capital, because a Vermeer exhibition without our Girl is simply unthinkable.

Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis: research partners

A team of curators, conservators and scientists from both the Rijksmuseum and the Mauritshuis are collaborating on a research project exploring the artistic choices, compositions and making process of master painter Johannes Vermeer. Together, we are growing ever closer to Vermeer.

Johannes Vermeer: the Sphinx of Delft

Johannes Vermeer is a world-renowned Dutch painter who lived in the seventeenth century. He is known for his intimate domestic scenes and his unique way of rendering light. The fact that there are only 36 artworks which we know for certain were created by Vermeer makes the exhibition at the Rijksmuseum all the more extraordinary.
