Abraham van Beyeren
Banquet Still Life

1655 Non visible

Abraham van Beyeren was a still-life specialist pur sang. He painted many lavish banquet still-lifes with costly objects like silver dishes, fine glassware and Chinese porcelain. The free brushstrokes with which he painted his still-lifes were remarkable, as they were usually painted much more precisely, in order to depict the different materials to good advantage.

Amidst all the riches, Van Beyeren also painted himself. You can see him standing at his easel in the reflection of the silver jug.
