The summer atmosphere continues at the Mauritshuis with the launch of the spectacular exhibition The Grand Tour - Destination Italy on September 18. Senior Curator Ariane van Sutchelen will tell us all about it on Friday 26 September during a fascinating presentation. Ariane has been in charge of coordinating an exceptional collection of masterpieces on loan from the monumental British country houses of Holkham Hall, Woburn Abbey and Burghley House. Iconic paintings by Canaletto, Pompeo Batoni and Angelica Kauffman form some of the splendid ‘holiday mementoes’ brought back by British aristocrats from their Grand Tour, equivalent to a modern-day Gap Year, which often lasted considerably longer than a year. Come and hear what these young people got up to, and see what they brought home.
