On 13 and 15 February, Filmhuis Den Haag will screen Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, a film that perfectly complements the exhibition BIRDS – Curated by The Goldfinch & Simon Schama.
This remarkable exhibition takes a fresh and surprising look at the relationship between humans and birds, exploring how we observe birds, what they evoke in us, and the stories we attach to them.
That relationship also plays a central role in The Birds. Hitchcock shows how something ordinary - the presence of birds - can suddenly acquire a new (terrifying) meaning. Like the exhibition, the film invites us to look differently: with greater curiosity and attentiveness, and with an eye for the unexpected interactions between humans and nature. Released in 1963, The Birds remains a powerful and enduring horror classic. Watch the trailer.
